Last week, Global Airlines launched its inaugural A380 flight from Glasgow to New York. However, the airline does not possess its own Air Operator Certificate, and therefore, the flight was operated under Hi Fly Malta's crew and flight number. Initially, the airline touted a luxurious travel experience, replete with caviar, champagne, and premium suites. Upon boarding, however, many passengers discovered a dated interior still bearing China Southern's old cabin configuration. Influencers Josh Cahill and Noel Phillips publicly criticized the peeling panels, malfunctioning screens, and cheap sticker branding. Although reviews praised the culinary offerings, Cahill and Phillips experienced significant delays between courses, with the second meal service never materializing. Furthermore, the in-flight entertainment system and Wi-Fi connectivity failed to function. Notably, the promised cabin upgrades were conspicuously absent. While the flight arrived on schedule, critics argue that Global Airlines' debut was underwhelming and felt rushed. According to Cahill, the airline 'overpromised and underdelivered.' As an airline predicated on hype, Global now faces the daunting task of substantiating its claims.
